To make this trekk work financially, we needed to cobble our transportation. Amtrak was our option and actually worked out better than projected. Some dismiss Amtrak but we like it because it allows us to explore the underbelly of the U.S. The trains are very functional and the seating is very comfortable, as a matter of fact similar to first-class comfort in flying. In two days we did Union Station (DC) to Charleston, SC. Then Charleston, SC to New York. Then New York back to DC.
