As a native of Los Angeles I had never heard of this calamity which occurred in 1928. I was finally able to visit the site of where the dam would have been and of course earlier in the week I toured the 54 miles to the Pacific Ocean to see where the water flowed.
This is the approximate site of the dam.
The dam was located just north of Santa Clarita. Current day, it is about 15 miles north of the 5 freeway. Once you understand that, you are then curious of how after the collapse the water flowed to the ocean, which was a bit of 50 miles away.

Fillmore and Santa Paula suffered tremendous damage. Additionally, other communities in the path were destroyed.
