Rick & Ron’s Old School Picnic v2025

Ganesha Park, Pomona CA

On Saturday, July 26, 2025 Rick and Ron’s Old School Pomona picnic completed it’s 10th year.   During this past year we lost several key soldiers such as Debbie Henson, James Bell, Kevin Wright, just to name a few.  Still folk came out and had great fellowship.  DJ Wen showed his talents by his old school collection which kept folk displaying their dance skills.  He also, joined Songbird and showed off his vocals. The duo of  Que and Songbird took us back by their renditions.  Then, our beloved Bro. Kenny Byrd came with his sax and performed brilliantly.

Thanks to Marian Williams and her sister about fourteen years ago they had the vision to create the Pomona First Family picnic.  It payed homage to the legacy of those early pioneers in the early 60’s who found Pomona a great place to raise their families.  The event was held at Boneli park and for several years and  it was a big hit.  Due to financial implications of using the venue; Debbie, Rick and Ron put their heads together, took the reins and decided to move the event home to Ganesha Park.  The event is self-funded as there is no admission and more important there is no parking fee.  Through Rick and Ron’s generosity the event has continued and has been supported by those who have provided donations to maintain the spirit of what makes the event so special.    God willing we will see each other next year!!!
